The Full Run Down of Microdermabrasion

I was recently invited to try out microdermabrasion at The Cosmetics Clinic. With so many factors playing a part in our skin these days I thought it would be great to not only get an expert opinion on what my skin looks like but also treat areas that could use a little TLC.

Microdermabrasion is a non surgical way to improve the appearance of the skin. This type of procedure is perfect if you suffer with acne scaring, fine wrinkles and/or sunspots. It’s known as bringing your skin back to life and it leaves you with a very subtle yet natural glow. It’s perfect for every skin type and colour and the best part – it’s pain free!

The Cosmetics Clinic has recently opened in Riccarton Mall, Christchurch and despite their newly arrival, interest in all types of beauty procedures doesn’t fall short.

Microdermabrasion is a nine step process in which you will have your skin examined under UV light to see what are your ‘problem areas’, if any. I was told my skin was pretty good however I was advised to start wearing sunblock as pigmentation was starting to form on under my skin which could become quite noticeable in a few years time.

I was then asked to lay back, relax and enjoy the treatment which included:

  • Cleanser
  • Exfoliation
  • AHA/BHA Mask
  • Microdermabrasion
  • Extractions (these hurt just slightly – however I did notice quite significant improvements!)
  • Peel
  • Nourishment
  • Hydration
  • Protection

My skin felt incredibly soft and alive afterwards. I did have some redness (which is totally expected) however that died down after 20ish minutes.

Things to be wary of after the process:

  • I was asked to avoid hot showers and any forms of exercise which would make me sweat
  • Stay out of the sun! As this process involves peeling back a layer of the skin – it’s vital you stay sun free for 24 hours after

Unfortunately microdermabrasion isn’t suitable for people who are on certain types of medication.

The Cosmetics Clinic offer a FREE consultation with any procedure so if you’re after something in particular or would just like to treat yourself this Christmas give them a call.
