My Skincare Routine

Over the past few years, skincare has definitely become more of a priority to me. As a teenager, I was always told to cleanse and moisturise my face twice a day to prevent those nasty teenage pimples. Well, that didn't work. I still suffered with some horrible breakouts and that really got to me. What's the point of using these products if it doesn't work?!

As I've grown up I've realised that teenage pimples are pretty much inevitable - you can use products to try keep them at bay but nothing will prevent it. 

Once I realised this, my attitude towards skincare has been a lot more positive. My mom has also rubbed off on me throughout the years. Her skin is phenomenal. Granted, a lot of this has to do with genes (I'm hoping I got lucky with this!) but it's also down to her loyal skincare regime. Her skin is so great in fact that a lot of the time, she gets mistaken for my older sister. 

I make sure to cleanse and moisturise morning and night and add in serums and eye creams when I can. You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on skincare products, all you need is a dedicated routine.

Cleansers are great to wash off any dirt and makeup. Over time a cleanser will also help clear out impurities and blackheads. I love to use warm water when cleansing my face however I will make sure the water is cold when rinsing. Cold water helps to close up pores which allows your skin to have a semi protective layer on during the day.

Moisturisers are essential when it comes to my skincare routine. I cannot go without them. It's a great idea to use moisturisers that contain an SPF for the day time! You can never be over protected when it comes to the sun.

Serums are slowly becoming my holy grail. They work great after cleanser but before moisturiser to add a little bit of hydration into your skin. There are many serums on the market today that help brighten your skin, help with redness, help combat oils, anti - ageing and much more. They can be a fantastic asset to your skincare collection.

Eye creams are something I don't think you can ever introduce into your routine too early. I wear eye makeup almost daily, so for me it is vital to have a dedicated product that works at hydrating the eye area.

- Mario Badescu Hyaluronic Eye Cream

- Dermalogica

 

Now and again it's great to incorporate a face mask into your routine. These are great if you want a quick boost of hydration or a clear out. However make sure to use these sparingly as some can be very harsh to the skin.

You don't need to spend a lot on skincare in order to see results. Granted, some higher end brands can carry ingredients that will target problem areas quicker. But at the end of the day, a good regime is the most important thing!
